Wisdom Teeth: Not Always So Wise

June 1, 2026 · 4 min read

Wisdom teeth usually arrive between ages 17 and 25 — often into a jaw that does not have room.

Signs of trouble

  • Pain or swelling at the back of the mouth
  • Gum flaps that trap food
  • Cavities on the wisdom tooth or its neighbour
  • Teeth that are stuck under the gum or angled

Monitoring vs removal

Healthy, fully erupted, cleanable wisdom teeth can stay. X-rays help us track ones that may cause problems later.

If removal is recommended

Earlier removal tends to mean easier healing. We refer complex cases to a trusted oral surgeon.
