Sensitivity happens when the dentin under your enamel — full of microscopic tubes leading to the nerve — becomes exposed. The cause determines the fix.
Everyday causes you can address at home
Brushing too hard, acidic drinks, and whitening products are the usual suspects. Switch to a soft brush, ease up on pressure, and wait 30 minutes after acidic food before brushing.
- Use a desensitizing toothpaste daily for at least two weeks.
- Dab a little on the sensitive spot before bed and don't rinse.
- Drink acidic beverages with a meal, not sipped all afternoon.
When it means something more
Pain that lingers more than 30 seconds after cold, wakes you at night, or hurts when you bite down suggests decay, a cracked tooth, or an inflamed nerve. Those do not resolve on their own — call us.
Widespread sensitivity plus flattened, chipped edges often points to nighttime grinding, which a custom night guard resolves.
