Night Guards: A Quick Guide

Jaw joint illustration

Many people grind or clench at night without knowing it. A night guard takes the force so your teeth do not.

Do you need one?

  • Morning jaw soreness or headaches
  • Flattened, chipped or sensitive teeth
  • A partner hears grinding at night

Custom vs store-bought

Custom guards are thinner, fit precisely and last longer. Boil-and-bite guards can be bulky and may not protect evenly.

Care

Rinse and brush the guard each morning, let it dry, and bring it to checkups.
