Dental Injuries in Children and How to Handle Them

May 18, 2026 · 4 min read

Child at the dentist

Staying calm and acting quickly gives an injured tooth its best chance.

Knocked-out adult tooth

Hold it by the crown, rinse briefly, and try to place it back in the socket. If not possible, store it in milk and come in immediately — time matters.

Knocked-out baby tooth

Do not reinsert it; it can harm the developing adult tooth. Call us so we can check the area.

Chips, loosened teeth, and lip cuts

Rinse, apply a cold compress, and save any fragments. Call Fievet Dental at 770.979.3760 and Dr. Ruchika Desai will help you decide on next steps.

Prevention

A mouthguard for sports is the single best protection.
